Join Calgary IIBA Chapters for Blaine Bey's presentation on Value Stream Mapping (VSM). VSM is a technique that visually diagrams all the steps required to bring a product or service (new or existing) from initial concept to the customer. It tracks both material and information flow, empowering teams to identify bottlenecks, reduce cycle times, and eliminate non-value-added waste. Blaine will provide an introduction to VSM techniques that Business Analysts can use to understand the organizations information flow and make recommendations on how to identify and eliminate waste thereby increasing productivity.

Value Stream Management is the ongoing strategic discipline of managing the complete flow of the delivery of value to customers under value streams within an organization. One aspect of the Business Analyst role is to assist leadership in the shaping of improvement strategies.
 
This workshop explores:
  • How value stream mapping can be employed as a strategic method to make the flow of work visible within value steams.
  • How to identify and assess opportunities for improvement.
  • How to improve work processes employing a guided continuous improvement approach.

Presenter: Blaine Bey (DASSM, CSM)

Blaine is a senior consultant with forty-five years of solution delivery experience involving analysis, design, development, and implementation of IT solutions, included ERP solutions (e.g., from Microsoft and Oracle). For the last twenty-eight years, he has focused on the roles of Senior Business Analyst, Quality Assurance (QA) Lead, and Project Leader. He has taught PMI Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM) courses to students in North America and beyond. He retired in 2025 as a Senior Business Analyst at the BC Energy Regulator in Victoria where he was focused on leading the procurement and implementation of cloud solutions at BCER. He is currently working part-time as a contractor at the BC Energy Regulator.

Blaine is currently learning to be a full-stack developer utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the design/development of 21 modules of a SaaS solution for management of Alberta Condominium Corporations and BC Strata Corporations.
